Creating in the Midst of Chaos
Lately, I’ve been feeling the weight of the world more than ever. Some days, it feels like I can’t handle it all. Honestly, there are moments when I wish I could just hide under my blanket and escape from it all, hoping my kids won’t find me.
My initial instinct is to get lost in the heaviness. But when I indulge that impulse, I end up stuck, wasting time feeling bad, sad, or angry. What really supports me is allowing myself the space to move through these feelings. I’ve learned to get on with things, even if it’s not easy.
As a mom, “not doing” doesn’t work for long. Life's logistics and my need for activity push me to keep going. Sometimes, getting unstuck isn’t as simple as knowing I need to; it’s a process.
Listening to Your Body
For me, tuning into my body is key. By understanding and responding to its needs, I navigate through the chaos more effectively. Sometimes my body needs rest, so I take a nap or go to bed earlier. At other times, it craves movement, so I go for a walk, breathe fresh air, and connect with nature. Occasionally, a deep stretch session provides the release I need. And when my mind is overwhelmed, a conversation with a loved one or friend helps me regain clarity.
The most delightful remedy is a cuddle session with my kids or my partner. There’s something so comforting about those moments.
In recent months, I've had to check in with my body more often than usual. This period of uncertainty calls for heightened awareness.
Embracing the Process
Just as I have navigated various delays and obstacles—some within my control, like fear and doubt, and others out of my control, such as global events—I've learned that moving through these challenges is crucial. I’ve discovered that having deadlines helps me stay focused and motivated.
In times of unrest, we can either get lost in the chaos or find ways to keep moving forward. My book now has a due date, and I’m excited to share it with you all. Reflecting on our ability to continue creating amidst chaos brings me to a broader realization about creation itself.
As parents, even when things seem chaotic, we are always creating—foundations for the future, memories, rituals, and daily experiences.
Reflecting on Your Creations
Take a moment to consider all that you’ve created in the past week, month, or even six months. Grab a pen and paper or open your notes app, and list everything—big and small. Recognizing and celebrating these creations can bring immense joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Embrace the process of creation and find calm in the midst of it all.
