Bring your coffee and let's chat!

Join us to hang out, get some support, encouragement, or ideas to make parenthood more enjoyable.

The intention of this group is provide a fun and welcoming environment, where we all feel heard, encouraged and accepted. It’s a place where we’ll be inspired to bring out our best as partners and parents.

We’re a no-judgment zone. We’re not here to judge or compare. Instead, we’re a place to build each other up (not tear each other {or ourselves} down.)

We’ll have a private room, so you can choose to bring your children or not. Whatever you prefer!

We’ll start with a discussion topic (such as communication with our spouse; creating household routines; removing “mommy guilt;” embracing our “new normal;” handling the moods and emotions of parenthood; etc.) But then we’ll always open it up for just casual conversation, so we can ask questions and get to know each other.

Mine, Yours, Ours: Relationship Survival Guide to Baby's 1st Year!

You’ve heard it before:  When you have a baby, EVERYTHING changes.  While that’s definitely true in a lot of ways, it doesn’t mean that your connection with your partner has to change.  There’s no denying that schedules may change, roles and responsibilities may change, and even HOW you connect with your partner may change.  Your relationship shouldn’t take a back seat.   Despite all the differences in the way your life looks before and after baby, you absolutely can (and should!) keep that deep connection that drew you together in the first place in tact and even strengthen it through the experience of new parenthood.

If you’re a new or expectant couple, this class is a can’t-miss!  Utilizing humor and empathy, the information in this course is presented from both the male/female perspective and the birthing parent/parenting partner perspective.  This course will help you understand each partner’s unique hopes, concerns and needs, and how universal our worries are regarding this transition to parenthood.

Throughout this course, you and your partner will learn effective communication skills so you can truly "hear" each other.  You will receive tips and strategies to aid in the development of your postpartum plan, which will focus on working as a team.  Expect to gain understanding of the moods and emotions that come with the birth of your baby.  And, just as important as anything else, you’ll also learn how to hold space for sex and intimacy in your relationship during and after this transitional phase.

Come ready to ask questions and share your own experiences.  This is not just a lecture format, your participation is highly encouraged!

Included in the cost of enrollment is a 20 minute consultation to review your Postpartum Plan. Consultation can be scheduled anytime up to 4 months after the class.  Scheduling will occur after class.  Take advantage--this is such a great deal and is valued to be worth more than the cost of the class!

Facilitated by: Catherine O'Brien, M.A. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Gottman Educator, and Mother and Rick Heyer, JD, Educator, and Father

Space is limited.

If you have any questions please call: (916) 718-9501 or email admin@happywithbaby.com

Finding Your Calm as a Mom

Finding Your Calm as a Mom

It’s hard to fathom the overwhelm, panic or rage you can feel at times as a mom until you become a mom yourself.  We have so much on our plates and we’re expected to do it all.  And even the most zen-like mommas can get rattled at times, when dinner is burning on the stove, the smoke detector is going off, the baby is crying, and you’re tripping over the dog….  Sometimes it feels like everything is happening all at once.

For most moms, it feels like there is a constant stream of stress--things to worry about, things to get done, things to make decisions about, not to mention people who need your attention every waking moment.  You might feel you are struggling to figure out how to find the calm and clarity that you once had (or maybe that you always wish you had).  The key is having the right tools in your back pocket to shift back to a place of serenity with a clear mind when it seems like you’re surrounded by chaos.

In this class, we'll learn how to trigger the calm response in order to regain mental clarity and emotional balance by tapping into limbic calming techniques that work from the inside out.

  • Learn how to meet the demands of your day without falling into overwhelm by keeping your biochemistry balanced and resilient.

  • Regain mental clarity and emotional balance by tapping into limbic calming techniques that work instantly.

  • Discover the tricks to shift our mental states back into a place of temperance after you’ve lost your cool and are spiraling down, to regain control and incisiveness in any situation.

You’re invited to an evening full of learning and tools specifically designed for moms and moms-to-be who want more calm, clarity and connection in their everyday lives.

We will go through 5 categories (aromatics, breath, nature, nervous system, and energy work) in this class and share one or two specific tools for each to give you a concrete example of how to use that category in your everyday life when you feel the rush of stress come over your body.

Calm Moms Group Therapy

Being a mom is incredible.  But, it can also be overwhelming, frustrating, exhausting and isolating!

Then we feel guilty, ashamed, and alone simply for having these feelings. It can be a downward spiral.

We know we need to do something different--something to make life feel less crazy or to make ourselves feel more on top of our game.  But often, we don’t know what changes are realistic to make, how to implement them, or where we could possibly find the time to make those changes happen.  That’s why this group was created.

In this group you will receive the understanding, sense of community, and hope that you need to feel validated, empowered, and so not alone!  Each 4 week series, you will dig deep to understand why you feel what you feel and implement new habits that allow you reclaim control.  You will learn tools and techniques to trigger the calm response in your brain and body, and allow you to regain mental clarity and emotional balance by tapping into limbic calming techniques that work from the inside out. And, you will get the support you need to deal with parenting challenges, relationship stressors, anxiety and other stressors that occur in our roles as mothers.

4-Week Series, you will learn:

  • How to dive deep to see the underlying root of what is challenging you and learn how to overcome it.

  • How to meet the demands of your day without falling into overwhelm by keeping your biochemistry balanced and resilient.

  • Regain mental clarity and emotional balance through the ups and downs.

  • Game-changing tricks for any challenging situation to shift your mental states back into a place of temperance and incisiveness, and regain control after you’ve lost your cool.

Plus:

  • This group will provide you with the connection and support of other women who are going through the same things as you.

  • This group is facilitated by Catherine O’Brien, LMFT, who is not only a therapist who has focused on new moms for almost 10 years, but is also a mother of two who has lived through many similar challenges.

This group is designed for moms who want more calm, clarity and connection in their everyday lives.

Each participant is required to commit to meet weekly and process issues on a deeper level. It is a group for moms who can use support and are ready to make changes to feel the empowered calm that she deserves.  *An intake interview with the facilitator is required prior to group enrollment.

"Mine, Yours, Ours: Relationship Survival Guide to Baby's 1st Year" | 0-1 Years
